This booklet comprehensively covers all four aspects of Belief in Angels; belief in their existence, functions, names and attributes. Additionally, important points of Tawheed are highlighted by refuting incorrect understandings, for example the false claims of contemporary grave-worshippers that are similar to those made by the pagan Quraish during the time of Allah’s Messenger.

In the course of the booklet, clarification of a number of doubts have also been included such as explaining Qur’aanic verses like, “We are nearer to him than his jugular vein…” This refers to the Angels of Allah and does not indicate that Allah is present amongst His creation.

The booklet also compares the likeness in the thinking of those who claim that Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) was created from Nur (i.e., light, which is a characteristic of the Angels) and the mentality of the disbelievers who demanded that an Angel be sent as a Messenger.

The latter section of the booklet enumerates characteristics of those fortunate people, on behalf of whom the Angels seek forgiveness and supplicate for their well-being in this world and the Hereafter. It also lists those unfortunate people, against whom the Angels invoke Allah.

This part of the book is mainly based upon the book, ‘Fariston ka Darood panewale aur Lanat panewale’ (Urdu) by Dr. Fazl-e-Ilahi.

Numerous other original Arabic books were referred to in the compilation of this booklet, mainly; al-Eeman bil-Malaaikah wa-Athruhu fi-Hayatil-Ummah by Shaikh Salih Ibn Fawzan al-Fawzan, Aalam al-Malaai’kah al-Abrar and ar-Rusul war-Risalaat by Shaikh Umar al-Ashqar, beneficial lectures of Shaikh (Dr.) Abdullah al-Farsi, Tafseer Ibn Katheer, Riyadus-Saliheen and others.

May Allah make us amongst those who deserve the Salaat of His Angels. All strength and success lies with Him Alone.

This book gives a clear explanation of the Muslim sound Creed which is the core of the religion of Islam, as the belief in Tawhid (monotheism) is the purpose for which Allah created both mankind and jinn, and thus, those whose belief in Tawhid is corrupt, are not considered Muslims. It is a commentary on the Book of Tawhid written by Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab.

In this book, Dr. Salih al Fawzan has projected light on doctrinal issues of utmost importance in a genuine and reader-friendly style. This translated version of the book fulfills a long-standing need on the part of English-speaking Muslims for a brief, introductory book in Tawhid. It is a valuable book for novice readers, be they Muslims or non-Muslims, who do not have thorough knowledge of the sound creed, The chapters of this book focus on major issues in Tawhid such as the definition of Tawhid, virtue of Tawhid, warning against acts of shirk (polytheism), the Prophet’s Maintenance of monotheism, and other topics.

Dr. Salih al Fawzan (born in 1935) has obtained a PhD in Islamic jurisprudence and has a high profile in teaching jurisprudence. He is a member of many academic institutions including the Board of Senior Ulema, the Permanent Committee for Fatwa and Research. He has written more than sixty published works covering Muslim Creed, Islamic jurisprudence and Muslim’s conduct.

Some people think that writing about this topic is writing about a matter that should remain on the periphery of knowledge. They believe in going over this topic in the quickest of fashions and not giving it too much thought.

They think that the benefits of such a study are very limited, and that being ignorant of this topic is not harmful at all.

However, this is not an irrelevant matter. Humans today spend billions of dollars, with which they could develop countries and end poverty in the farthest reaches of the world, on research to discover whether there is any possibility of life on nearby planets. Scientists spend a great deal of their time and resources on this question. What about living beings that are known to exist right here with us on our earth? They live in our houses and they eat and drink with us. In fact, they affect our thoughts and our hearts and even drive us to destroy our own selves and to spill one another’s blood.

No price can be put on the importance of the texts of the Qur’an and authentic hadeeth that have reached us, giving us knowledge of this matter.

Those texts uncover for us the secrets of these fellow-creatures: the world of the jinn.

Shaykh al-Albaanee: Recommends Books For A Young Person That Is Starting Out In His Islaamic Studies

Question: What are the books you recommend a young person that is starting out in his Islaamic studies to read?

Answer: If he is a novice, then from the books of Fiqh, we advise him to read ” Fiqh As-Sunnah” of Sayyid Saabiq, while seeking assistance from some of its references, such as ” Subul-us-Salaam” (of Imaam As-Sana’aanee, rahimahullaah). And if he looks into ” Tamaam-ul-Mannah” (of Al-Albaanee) then that will be stronger for him. And I advise him to read ” Ar-Rawdat-un-Nadiyyah” (of Sideeq Hasan Khaan).

As for the subject of Tafseer, then he should habitually read from the book ” Tafseer Al-Qur’aan-ul-‘Adheem” of Ibn Katheer – even though it is somewhat long – for it is the most authentic from the books of Tafseer today.

Then, on the subject of religious exhortation and heart-softening narrations, he should read the book “Riyaad-us-Saaliheen” of Imaam An-Nawawee.

Then, with regard to the books related to Creed, I advise him to read the book ” Sharh Al-‘Aqeedat-ut-Tahaawiyyah” of Ibn Abee Al-‘Izz Al-Hanafee. And he should seek assistance, also, from my comments and explanations to it.

Then, he should make it his customary practice to study from the books of Shaikh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taimiyyah and his student Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah, may Allaah have mercy on them. For I hold them to be from the rare and unique Muslim scholars that have treaded upon the methodology of the Salaf As-Saalih (righteous predecessors) in their understanding, while having Taqwaa and righteousness. And we do not purify anyone over Allaah.

Shaykh al-Albaanee (may Allaah have mercy on him)
